ON BREAK THE BELIEVER: "... examining the intersection of technology and spirituality, the album begins with an introspective and melancholic tune called ‘First Night in Louisville’. Telling the tale of a drunken night out beginning with optimism and belief but ultimately descending into an unravelling of dreams, it’s a potent start to proceedings. " FULL REVIEW
ON BREAK THE BELIEVER: "Break the Believer is a sonic rollercoaster that absolutely refuses to stay within the boundaries of any genre you’ve ever heard of, and pulls it off more often than it should. With sharp lyrics, raw vulnerability, and a dash (meaning almost a lot) of sonic experimentation that may or may not make you stop and wonder if you’ve just stumbled into an alternate universe where genre doesn’t exist and this is simply a musical landscape that is constantly shattering beneath your feet, making you feel as if you’re listening to someone who’s always changing, never quite content to rest on a particular sound for too long as Tommy Trull has gone out of his way to communicate honest emotions through a maximum of at least seven different styles of music all at once." ON BREAK THE BELIEVER: "Trull’s influences are evident yet never derivative. Echoes of Leonard Cohen’s poetic depth and Nick Drake’s ethereal intimacy mingle with the bold versatility of David Bowie. Yet, Trull remains distinctly himself, infusing his music with a raw vulnerability that is as inviting as it is thought-provoking. " FULL REVIEW
ON BREAK THE BELIEVER: "Tommy Trull is a rare artist who can simultaneously capture the essence of a bygone era while carving out a sound that is distinctly his own." FULL REVIEW
ON NOBODY ELSE IN THE WORLD: "I thought I had Trull’s style and musical range pinned down at this point in the album, but “Bury Them” demonstrates this artist’s ability to always tread new ground." FULL REVIEW
ON BREAK THE BELIEVER: "American indie rock artist Tommy Trull has had countless singles and albums since 2016, with Break the Believer being his most recent work. Released last year, Break the Believer, the musician explores a lo-fi indie sound with cleverness and precision, mixing textures and mixing influences in a free and carefree way. The stripped-down tone of the album hides, in truth, a sharpened lyricism that combines themes of reflection and transformation. According to Tommy himself, the album is about finding itself in the midst of destruction, oscillating between a desire to rebuild and to simply get worse. The music explored by Tommy here appears extremely diverse and prolific, recalling names from Mac Demarco and Wilco to the great Diamond Jubilee, creating a true sonic tapestry that extends and expands across various genres. Its experimental face is present without ever dreaming distant or difficult to assimilate, building on a solid melodic foundation. The album was entirely written, played and produced by Tommy himself in order to deliver a work with a singular creative and artistic vision. Inspired by the constant reinvention of David Bowie, the poetic lyricism of Leonard Cohen and the unabashed form in which They Might Be Giants incorporates different influences, Tommy Trull is an absolutely memorable album that shines with authenticity and intimacy.."
